For eVinyl both the steam generation and pressing processes are based entirely on renewable energy sources.¹ This approach is complemented by the use of bio-based PVC as a certified raw material in accordance with the ISCC mass balance approach.² In this way, eVinyl combines audio quality and durability with a significantly lower use of finite resources and reduced emissions.

What is the difference between eVinyl and conventional virgin vinyl?

With eVinyl, it is possible to manufacture vinyl records without using natural gas or crude oil in the production process. Both the steam generation and the pressing process for eVinyl are powered entirely by electricity from renewable energy sources.¹ This process is complemented by the use of bio-based PVC, the raw materials for which are verifiably certified in accordance with the ISCC mass balance approach.²

What are the advantages of eVinyl?

eVinyl is made from bio-based PVC and is moulded without the use of fossil fuels, thereby eliminating the need for finite crude oil resources. This manufacturing process reduces CO₂ emissions by approximately 72% compared with conventional pressing.³

How are eVinyl made?

The pressing process is identical to that used for conventional vinyl records. All the equipment and procedures are exactly the same. The only difference is that the steam is generated using electricity from renewable energy sources.¹

Can I store my eVinyl in the usual way, or will it degrade over time?

No, it won’t degrade. Chemically speaking, eVinyl is also PVC. The vinyl record has the same lifespan and properties as an LP made from fossil-based PVC – in other words, conventional virgin vinyl.

Is eVinyl sensitive to light?

No.

Is an eVinyl compostable?

No. Chemically speaking, it is made of PVC and, if necessary, can be recycled as part of the internal material cycle and returned to production.

Can I hear any difference compared to a virgin vinyl record?

No, the material is chemically identical to fossil-based PVC.

Does eVinyl cost more than conventional virgin vinyl?

The price of eVinyl is slightly higher, as the steam is generated using renewable electricity and the production of bio-based PVC is more costly.

Can eVinyl also be used for effect vinyl records?

Yes, all the colours available in our colour catalogue can be pressed as effect vinyl records.

Who can guarantee that eVinyl is an independent, externally certified product for which no electricity generated from fossil fuels was used in the steam generation or pressing processes?

With eVinyl, both steam generation and the pressing process are powered entirely by electricity from renewable energy sources. This is documented by guarantees of origin and an energy balance, which are validated annually by GUTCert.

Who can guarantee that bio-based PVC is an independently, externally verified material and not simply a case of "greenwashing’"

The bio-based PVC used in eVinyl production is subject to international ISCC PLUS certification, meaning it is monitored throughout the entire upstream supply chain and is subject to the ISCC mass balance approach². Only bio-based PVC with ISCC PLUS certification provides reliable protection against deception in vinyl record production.

Is there a product labelling, and what needs to be taken into account?

Label your products with the eVinyl logo – we are happy to provide you with various logo designs for this purpose. This allows your customers to recognise at a glance that this record is different from a conventional record.

The eVinyl logo is used for product labelling and is not an independent sustainability label.
