Photographs by Hermann Hirsch, Jan Lessmann, Klaus Tamm
ZeitweiseThe magic of reduction
The elegant photo book by the three award-winning nature photographers Hermann Hirsch, Jan Lessmann and Klaus Tamm is minimalist, quiet and yet fascinating. In their landscape and wildlife photographs of the Scottish winter, they create new perspectives by focusing on the significant and the accompanying interplay of sharpness and blur. Their deep connection with nature is reflected in each of their photographs.
Hirsch and Lessmann are the two founders of „Zeitweise„, a young company that is wholly dedicated to photography. Tamm is one of the many members who shape Zeitweise with their expertise and passion. Under the motto „Magical – Creative – Inspiring – Unique“, they offer workshops and online courses in which they develop and try out new techniques and image ideas and pass on their knowledge.
The structure and format of the photo book are based on the style of the aesthetically minimalist photographs. It comes as a surprise that it is a swiss hardcover, covered with a fine fabric in an elegant dark blue. The U1 was finished with blind embossing for both the title „SCOTLAND“ and the tip-on. The tip-on, which was glued into the blind embossing by hand and coated with UV varnish after 4-colour printing, contrasts sharply with the chosen shade of blue of the fabric.
The second part of the book title, „A Winter Journey“, stands out thanks to gold hot foil embossing. The spine was also embossed with gold hot foil.
When the swiss hardcover is opened, the book block is revealed, its thread-stitched pages covered with a back strip matching the colour of the cover. A black dyed-through paper was chosen for the mirror and a high-quality material for the content paper, which enhances the effect of the photographs.
